How to Choose Cabinet Hardware

  • Match cabinet style. Shaker = bar pulls or cup pulls. Slab = bar pulls or no-handle integrated. Inset = traditional knobs or vintage cup pulls.
  • Pick one metal family. Don't mix brass + chrome unless intentional. Faucet, lighting, hardware should coordinate.
  • Size matters. 5" pulls for upper cabinets and drawers under 24". 7"-9" for wide drawers. 12"+ for appliance pulls.
  • Check center-to-center. Pull mounting holes are typically 3", 3.75", 5", 6.25", 7.5". Buying wrong spacing = re-drilling.

How hardware is quoted and installed

Your cabinet quote lists the knobs and pulls piece by piece, so you can see what hardware adds across the 20–30 cabinets of a typical kitchen. Buying hardware on its own? Bring in a door or drawer front and we will match the finish. In the showroom, hardware boards let you hold each finish against your exact door sample — the fastest way to decide between two or three options.

Pairing finishes

On white or navy Shaker doors, brass adds warmth; on slab doors, matte black looks modern; beside stainless appliances, brushed nickel or chrome stays neutral. Choose the faucet and light fixtures first, then match the hardware to them. More ideas in our cabinet hardware guide, or see all hardware.

Frequently asked questions

Knobs or pulls?

Knobs on doors and pulls on drawers is the classic rule. Pulls everywhere gives a cleaner, more modern look; knobs everywhere reads traditional.

What size pulls should I use?

5" pulls for upper cabinets and drawers under 24", 7"–9" for wide drawers and 12" or longer for appliance pulls. Check the center-to-center spacing (3", 3.75", 5", 6.25" or 7.5") before you buy.

Will you install the hardware?

Yes, when it is bundled with a cabinet order: our crew installs it during the cabinet install.
